Rockin' on the Mississipi River at Hollywood Casino

Hollywood Casino has always offered great steakhouse dinners, seafood buffet and excellent gaming specials. Of all the times I have frequented this casino I never paid attention to Studio 7 nightclub tucked away behind the beautifully remodeled semi-spiral staircase that leads to the dining and buffet area. This past Friday I was urged to attend with a group of friends from work. I was a 'newbie' and a bit reluctant to trying out a club in a casino....not to mention a club with a live band. I immediately began to envision an older band with a decade old look playing songs that only my mother would love. Since there was nothing else for me to do and it had been a while since I'd been out, I quickly dressed and sped away to what seemed to be a mediocre night.

The drive to the casino was refreshing. I was able to see why so many visitors fell in love with the city and later decided to call Baton Rouge home. The downtown district has been in a renovation phase for some time now and all the final details have gotten underway paying homage to architecture from years past and tying it in with the new. The bright lights and exotic cars give the impression that downtown is offering a big city lifestyle. However; the patrons out and about leaves you with the same feeling you get when you return home. Upon my arrival to the casino I realized that a new underpass had been built to accommodate patrons entering/leaving if a train is passing through. There was ample enough parking and lighting so I felt at ease getting out and walking to the entrance. The valet and door attendants were friendly and eager to assist with questions or services to make your night enjoyable. As I walked through the door my mouth dropped and for the moment I was blown away. I eagerly raced past the grand staircase and ended up at the entrance to the nightclub. Inside the lighting was low creating a great chemistry between the dance floor and the bars. On each side of the club lies a full service bar so you will never be too far to order another round. They even offer a late night menu for food ordering if you grow hungry from dancing.

The Band

Magnolia band provided the sounds all night that ranged from jazz band to Jitterbug to 70's to the most current hits out now. I love the versatility of the band and how there seemed to be a camaraderie between them and their audience. This band has 7 members that have a passion for live music and the instruments that they play. The singers have a strong vocal ability that is hard to find with some live bands and will keep you rockin' on the Mississippi River. I thoroughly enjoyed myself and plan on attending again in the future. There are several acts that perform at Studio 7 creating an amazing atmosphere where you will have great company, friends and drinks. Check out their calendar for upcoming bands Fridays: 9pm to 2am or Saturdays: 9pm to 2 am. Hollywood casino is offering something that Baton Rouge has been missing.
