Dive Sites in Badian Island

Badian Island in Cebu, Philippines, a top diving destination frequented by both locals and international tourists, has a total of five dive sites within its vicinity and more dive sites accessible from nearby towns.

Directly at the island, there are three dive sites: the three dive sites: the Coral Garden located just 1 kilometer from the resort and about 5 minutes by boat transfer; Garden Eels also located 1 kilometer from the resort and about 5 minutes by boat transfer; and the Badian Wall located 3 kilometers away and about 10 minutes by boat transfer.

These three sites feature drop offs beginning at 3 to 5 meters. Generally, they are good areas for night diving. A number of fan and large green corals are readily seen from the area. There are also many small caves found throughout the sites. The visibility averages between 15 to 25 meters and the currents are serene to moderate.

The Coral Gardens is the primary snorkeling area in the Badian Island Resort and Spa. It also features a small sandy area on the shelf at about 3 meters. This area is used as the diving school's Open Water Training Dives. The Badian Wall and Fisherman's Cave are two spots accessed from the north and northwest side of the island. The current in these dive sites are sometimes a little stronger here, often resulting to more fish activity. The Garden Eels is situated from a drop off area of about 30 meters. It got its name from the large, sandy spot covered with garden eels poking their heads out of the sand by 30 to 34 meters.

Sawang is located just 1 kilometer from the resort and about 5 minutes by boat transfer. It offers a shallow dive and the area is sometimes used for first Open Water Training Dive sessions, especially when catering to large groups. The dive starts at 3 meters with sandy spots and patches of corals. From here, the site gradually slopes; thus, making it a good and safe diving spot for beginners. This area is also used for the Advance Open Water Navigation Dive sessions. Divers can usually see a number of fan and large green hard corals, along with schools of 20 to 30 small yellowtail barracudas. Turtles are occasionally seen around as well. Visibility in the area is 15 to 25 meters.
