Disney's PhotoPass: Top 10 FAQs

Are you the photographer in your family? Do you have hundreds, even thousands of photos from every special event in your life? Are you actually IN any of said photos?

If you are like me, you have no tangible proof that you ever took part in any family gathering, vacation, or holiday dinner, because you were always the one holding the camera. Sound familiar? Here are answers to the ten most frequently asked questions I receive about Disney's PhotoPass.

Disney's PhotoPass: What is It?

Disney has a great solution to this dilemma: Disney's PhotoPass. This is a free service - yes, I said free - that enables you to actually be photographed WITH your family at DisneyWorld, enjoying all of the magic together in the happiest place on earth.

Disney's PhotoPass: How Does It Work?

Each time you approach a PhotoPass photographer (or they approach you), they will either give you a PhotoPass ID card, or you can show them the one you already have. They will scan the bar code on the card and then take the shots. Each time your card is scanned, those photos are saved to your account.

Multiple cards can be added to a single account, so if your party splits up you can each have PhotoPass photos taken and then combined into a single account.

Tip: Each time you receive a PhotoPass card, take a picture of the ID number with your camera or phone. If you happen to lose or misplace your card, you can still access your photos online.

Disney's PhotoPass: Why Should I Use It?

The better question is, 'Why wouldn't I use it?' The advantage of using Disney's PhotoPass is that you get professional quality photos that include every member of your family. No more blurry shots or red-eye to worry about. You can view your photos online, order prints or purchase the entire collection on CD (explained below). Plus, there is no limit to the number of photos that can be added to a PhotoPass account!

Disney's PhotoPass: What's So Great About PhotoPass Photos?

As mentioned, PhotoPass photos are taken by professional photographers who know how to pose a shot and take great pics. There are also features available online that allow you to embellish your photos with exclusive Disney borders and "magical" elements.

The best feature of PhotoPass is the exclusive Disney "magic" these photographers can add to your photos. Wouldn't your little princess love a picture of her holding Tinkerbell in her hand? What would your little prince think about Stitch popping up out of the pavement? A swordfight with Captain Hook? Disney's PhotoPass photographers can make all of this happen, and more!

Disney's PhotoPass: Can't I Just Ask a Cast Member to Take Our Picture with Our Camera?

Absolutely! Using PhotoPass does not mean you should leave your camera at home. You will certainly take plenty of your own pictures during your vacation. But the PhotoPass service offers a great way to get the entire family in the picture, without having to trade places with anyone. No more, "Here, honey, now you take a picture of me with the kids."

After visiting Disney World six times, I finally splurged on the PhotoPass pre-purchase offer for my seventh trip. I am so glad I did. As an avid scrapbooker, not only did I take 1200 pictures with my own camera, we had over 200 PhotoPass photos to commemorate our trip!

Disney's PhotoPass: How Do I Find a PhotoPass Photographer?

PhotoPass photographers are located in each of the four main parks at Disney World in Orlando, FL: Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Animal Kingdom, and Disney's Hollywood Studios. They are located at strategic points throughout the parks, such as the main entrance, character meet-and-greets, and near the main icons of the park (Cinderella's Castle in Magic Kingdom, Spaceship Earth (the golf ball) at Epcot, the Sorcerer's Hat at Disney's Hollywood Studios, and the Tree of Life at Animal Kingdom.

PhotoPass photographers are easy to spot-they are the cast members with all of the cameras hanging around their necks.

Disney's PhotoPass: How Much Does it Cost?

You can take advantage of the pre-purchase offer by purchasing your photo CD before your trip. If you pre-purchase the CD, it costs $99.95. You will be required to register at this time. If you order the CD in the parks or after you return from your trip, it costs $149.99.

Disney's PhotoPass: How Do I Get My Pictures?

After you return home from your Disney vacation, simply log in to www.disneyphotopass.com and add your PhotoPass ID numbers to your account. You will be able to view your photos, add borders, create a photo book (this costs extra) and more. When you are finished editing your photos, submit your order for your CD. Your pre-purchase credit will be applied to your order. (Tip: If you edit, crop or add "magic" to your photos, a copy of the original is saved, so you never have to worry about ruining a photo!)

Disney's PhotoPass: Do I Have to Order Prints from Disney?

No! The great thing about PhotoPass is that you can print your photos at home, or even upload to your favorite discount site (Walgreen's, Shutterfly, etc.). The pictures are high resolution JPEG images on an archive quality CD. Disney even includes a copyright release which allows you to reprint your photos wherever you want.

Disney's PhotoPass: How Long Will My Photos Remain Available Online?

Your PhotoPass photos will remain available online for 30 days from the day to add your PhotoPass ID numbers to your account.
