Toyota bought a 60-second commercial for the Super Bowl at the last minute, with the Japanese automaker airing two ads during the NFL's most important game of the year

While the "Toni" commercial for the RAV4 Hybrid featuring female football player Antoinette "Toni" Harris was released online days in advance, the "Wizard" ad premiered immediately after the Super Bowl's halftime entertainment sponsored by Toyota

The star of the commercial is the 2020 GR Supra, which is seen avoiding the obstacles of a life-sized pinball machine at high speed

"The spot showcases Supra's performance, capability and style as it conquers the obstacles of a life-sized pinball machine, spurred on by The Who's iconic song 'Pinball Wizard,'" Toyota said in a statement

Even Pete Townshend of The Who got excited about the commercial."Super Bowl! I can't be there but I am bouncing around with my song inside a virtual pinball machine driving a beautiful Toyota Supra," the artist said

The Supra made its world commercial debut in front of an audience of over 100 million during the most-watched TV event of the year

Not bad for a first ad, right? The "Wizard" spot was created by Saatchi & Saatchi to mark the Supra's return after a 21-year absence

It was directed by Golden Globe-nominated director and screenwriter Marc Forster, who is best known for directing films such as Monster's Ball and Kite Runner

The 2020 Supra goes on sale in the United States this summer. It will be available in two grades, 3

0and 3.0 Premium, as well as a Launch Edition based on the 3.0 Premium.Prices start at $49,990 for the 3.0 base model and $55,250 for the Launch Edition

Toyota Sports 800 by Tatsuo Hasegawa - Duration: 3:59.

The Toyota Sports 800 is Toyota's first production sports car.

The prototype for the Sports 800, called the Publica Sports, debuted at the 1962 Tokyo Auto Show,

featuring a space age sliding canopy and utilizing the 21 kW (28 hp) power train of the Publica 700, a Japanese market economy car.

The Toyota Sports 800 is affectionately called the "Yota-Hachi" (ヨタハチ), which is a Japanese short form for "Toyota 8".

In Japan, the vehicle was exclusive to Toyota Japan retail sales channel called Toyota Public Store alongside the Publica.

In 1965, the car went into actual production, with chassis code UP15 and an increase in engine displacement from 700 cc to 800 cc,

as well as dual carburetors, which increased power from 28 to 45 PS (21 to 33 kW).

This engine was sufficient to power the light car around town at 70 km/h (45 mph) or on a race track up to about 160 km/h (100 mph).

Production started after the introduction of Honda's first car, called the Honda S500,

and joined the market segment that was already represented by the Datsun Fairlady, and the Daihatsu Compagno.

The car had aerodynamic styling by Shozo Sato, a designer on loan from Datsun, and Toyota engineer Tatsuo Hasegawa.

Hasegawa had been an aircraft designer in World War II and the resulting Sports 800 was a lightweight and agile machine.

The Sports 800 was one of the first production cars featuring a lift-out roof panel, or targa top, pre-dating the Porsche Targa.

The aluminum targa top could be stored in the trunk, when not in use.

Between 1965 and 1969 approximately 3,131 units were built by Toyota subcontractor Kanto Auto Works.

Only about 10% of those vehicles are known to have survived, most being in Japan.

Production Tables show 1,235 cars manufactured in 1965, 703 in 1966, 538 in 1967, 440 in 1968, and 215 in 1969.

The vast majority of the 3,131 cars were right hand drive, but some 300 were left hand drive models, built primarily for the Okinawa market.

(Okinawa, having been American occupied, drove on the "other side" from the rest of Japan.)

A very limited number of left hand drive cars were used by Toyota to "test drive" in the US, but Toyota made a decision not to import or sell the cars in the US market.

There are subtle design differences between the years. Noticeable differences have included: change over from non-synchro to synchro first gear in 1967; a grill and bumperette change in 1968; and side marker lights in 1969.

The basic body design, however, remained unchanged.

An air-cooled 790 cc horizontally opposed two-cylinder boxer engine powered the vehicle.

The 0.8 liter 2U (45 PS at 5,400 rpm) was produced from 1965 through 1969, while a similar 2U-B was produced from 1966 through 1976

(in 1975 the Dyna Coaster Bus manual shows that Toyota used the 2U-B as a separate auxiliary engine, just to run the air conditioning unit for the bus).

Toyota produced a one-off prototype Sports 800 Gas Turbine Hybrid for the 1979 Tokyo Motor Show.

The body of the Sports 800 also served as basis of the Sports EV and Sports EV Twin electric concept cars, both unveiled in 2010.

Who Is Toni Harris from Toyota's Super Bowl Commercial? | Heavy.com

Tonight, Toyota's Super Bowl commercial will have everyone across the country asking: Who is Toni Harris?.

The college football player has dreams of playing in the Super Bowl, and today, she's going to be featured in a commercial as part of the Big Game.

Toni is a defensive back for the East Los Angeles College Huskies.

She's just a sophomore and one of the first non-kickers on a college football roster.

In high school, Harris was both a football player and the homecoming queen.

The 22-year-old has her associate's degree in social science and behavioral development with an emphasis in criminal justice.

In an interview with CBS This Morning, Harris explains, "I first developed an interest in football when I was four… People around me weren't too fond of me playing football… What motivates me the most is when people tell me that I can't.

I love to prove people wrong.".

Toni goes on to say, "When Toyota contacted me about the Super Bowl ad, I was literally in the locker room getting ready to get dressed.

I heard my phone ding… I saw that they wanted to shoot a Super Bowl commercial.

I want to be the first female NFL player," she says.

Speaking separately to USA Today, Toni said, "I plan to be the first female NFL player… Drafted or undrafted, as long as I get there, with God's will.

According to the outlet, the 22-year-old is currently considering four scholarship offers: one from Bethany College, another from Adams State University, and the last two from Graceland University and Kentucky Christian University.

Toni reportedly had to keep her presence in the Super Bowl ad a secret, except for a few close friends and family members.

As she trains in the commercial, a voiceover by Jim Nantz says, "They've said a lot of things about Toni Harris.

They said she was too small.

They said she was too slow, too weak.".

Toni then turns to the cameras, while driving a Toyota, and says, "But I've never been a big fan of assumptions.

The ad will air in the first commercial break of the second quarter.

In a statement, the group vice president of Toyota marketing and Toyota Motor North America, said, "The 2019 RAV4 HV is the vehicle that will shatter the perceptions of hybrids, much like how Toni is shattering perceptions of a football player.".

How does she feel with the spotlight on her? "It's pretty crazy," Harris said.

"It's overwhelming but exciting at the same time.".
