She's Mercedes: Powerful Women (Part 2) | Britta Seeger & Amber Mac - Duration: 5:01.

If you met young girls, ladies, boys, whatever, what would be

your advice for them in the future, taking into consideration everything we

tackle: the technology, moving fastly forward?

I would say the one thing that people need to do,

as far as young people getting into any industry, is to be

very adaptable to change.

So often we get stuck with this blueprint of how we see

our lives and the next 40 years.

"I'm going to marry at 25, have kids at 30, do this at 35" – throw that out the window.

I mean, we live in exciting times and I think there's so much potential to do whatever you want.

And so I would say don't get too stuck and comfortable in the way that

you're doing things.

There's a real beauty to discomfort and I think if you

can embrace that you can succeed as a leader in these new times.

When I became aware that I'm becoming a mom of triplets, everybody was asking: "How will you do it?"

It was the first time in my life,

I was already a manager leading a lot of people, and then I was faced with the first time in my life to say:

"I don't have any clue how I will manage this."

What I've learned is exactly what you were just mentioning.

You have to take the situation how it is.

You have to find a solution within the situation and then you move forward.

So there's no manual that you get. I think that's one of the beautiful things

and I know we're sometimes afraid to talk about motherhood in the context of

business but I think one of the beautiful things about mothers is that

we do figure out how to do it all and most moms I know are incredibly busy and

successful and they're wonderful leaders in their homes and in the office.

And I think that's something we should all celebrate.

So my husband took a bit of a step back in his career early on and let me

go out and do my thing and I think also that partnership is incredibly valuable.

So working as a team?

Absolutely and having someone to support you.

So it's not just about I am able to do all these different things but the truth is

I have a little team at home who supports me and who accepts that I'm travelling a lot

but knows when I need to be there, I'm there.

And I think that little unit, I protect it like something sacred and I love it.

So were you feeling that there was the expectation of people around you –

that they expected more from you?

I really did! I found that if I had

one mistake or I tripped or made one little error, that I would be judged more

intensely maybe than some of my peers.

So what I did is I overcompensated. In my 20s I worked harder than anyone else,

I stayed up researching my notes, I made sure that I knew what I was talking about,

I tried never to make mistakes.

I've eased a bit up over the years

but I think that early on there was that pressure to just exceed everyone's expectations.

I would never share that I felt tested.

What I see in many conversations with younger people – whether it is is men or women, it's the same thing –

I always try to encourage them to say

you have to believe in yourself and you have to get focused on what is

important for you, on what you believe.

So I think that's at least for me the key takeaway if I look back into my past.

As long as I stayed focused and I said: "I truly believe in what I am doing,

I cannot concentrate too much on other things",

then I was successful.

If somebody said no, yes okay, never take a no for a no.

Just try it again and rethink whether you did everything in order to move it forward

so that's my key learning and this is what

I try to say to the people: "There is no white knight coming to help you –

in the night or in the morning."

So I truly believe in your inner force,

I truly believe in your inner strength, and as long as you stay

focused on yourself and, although you can become frustrated because

this was a no, you stand up again and you say I fight for this.

The best hing that has ever happened to me is that his grade three teacher told me recently

what they had at career day, talking about what they wanted to do, and he said:

"I want to be a tech entrepreneur like my mom."

That's the biggest compliment, right?

It is the biggest compliment for a woman in technology!

I've been in this industry for almost 20 years just to think that

I have a little boy who in his family looks to me as I want to

be a tech entrepreneur just like my mom.

It's just a very, incredibly proud moment for me.

2018 Mercedes-Benz X-Class 250d Progressive v Nissan Navara ST-X Comparison | motoring.com.au - Duration: 3:23.

Mercedes-Benz chose the NP300 Nissan Navara as the basis for its new X-Class ute – so

is it really new at all, or just a rebadged Navara?

The motoring team recently pitted a mid-spec X 250d PROGRESSIVE head to head with Nissan's

flagship Navara, the ST-X, to find out…

We've opted for a mismatch of trim grades to help even up the playing field.

The mid-spec Benz is still dearer than the Navara ST-X, especially as our X-Class test

vehicle also came fitted with a factory Style Pack, worth $3750.

The Style Pack includes 18-inch alloys, rear window tinting, and side steps, among other

items.

Over a week we drove both vehicles in and around Melbourne, at one point loading up

the utes' tubs with 650kg and also spending a day off-roading in Victoria's Bunyip State

Park.

Our time behind the wheel revealed two main points…

One, the latest Navara, with dual-rate rear springs, is a significant improvement; and

two, the work invested by Mercedes-Benz has produced a ute that's significantly different

– and better.

The 'Benz boffins have worked hard in the NVH department to address noise, vibration

and harshness.

The work has certainly paid dividends: the X-Class cab is remarkably quiet for a turbo-diesel

ute, there's very little vibration and the revised suspension delivers an appreciably

more refined ride, both on-road and off.

The X-Class's four-wheel disc brakes deliver better feedback while families in particular

will appreciate the best-in-class safety – AEB, lane departure warning and tyre pressure monitoring

are standard across the entire X-Class range.

Off-road the Navara benefits from slightly higher ground clearance and plusher suspension,

but both vehicles have healthy wheel articulation and no shortage of ability.

The dual-cab Navara ST-X now has dual-rate rear springs to address previous criticism

of its soggy rear-end.

As we discovered on a recent Navara tow test, the ploy seems to have worked, although we

have to admit we'd be reticent to tow at its full 3.5t limit, as we would in any of the

similarly rated four or five-cylinder vehicles currently in this class.

The X-Class delivers tauter, more precise handling on the blacktop while the Navara

exhibits appreciably more body roll through the bends.

On the road the X-Class wins hands down.

Both are powered by the Nissan-Renault sourced 2.3-litre twin-turbo-diesel which, while entirely

adequate, lacks the gusto of bigger-capacity units like the one found in Ford's Ranger

and Mazda's BT-50.

The X-Class interior is a step up from the Navara's, and features high-resolution TFT

displays.

However, the X-Class camera's frame rate is slow, requiring extra care, and there's very

little oddment storage.

The Navara ST-X comes standard with a 360-degree camera view, plus a dash-top storage tray

and a further tray at the bottom of the centre stack.

For us, there's a clear winner here: the Mercedes-Benz X-Class.

Yes, it's appreciably dearer, but the changes made by Mercedes-Benz have produced a better,

safer vehicle that warrants the extra expense.

Why Does the Mercedes Benz CLS class Still Exist? - Duration: 7:30.

When the Mercedes-Benz CLS was launched in 2004, it created an entirely new segment,

which the brand called a "four-door coupe."

The CLS was all about style: Based on the E-class sedan, it featured sleek, sensual

lines at the price of practicality and its own distinct dashboard.

The idea spread like wildfire.

Audi derived the A7 from its A6, while Volkswagen conceived the CC as a Passat variation.

Like the CLS, they were slightly more expensive than the models they were based on.

Then BMW took the cake with the 6-series Gran Coupe, which shared its architecture with

the 5-series sedan but was priced well into 7-series territory.

Benz's second-gen CLS, on the other hand, gained a station wagon version (dubbed "Shooting

Brake") in some markets, but its interior was downgraded to E-class level.

Meanwhile, Porsche's whale-like Panamera followed the four-door coupe format without

even bothering with the more traditional squared-off sedan version.

It has become much easier on the eyes in its second iteration.

Now Daimler has bifurcated its four-door coupe offerings.

Almost simultaneously, the company launched its third-generation CLS and the new AMG GT

4-Door.

In Europe, the new CLS lineup stretches from a four-cylinder diesel through six-cylinder

gasoline and diesel models, topping out with the Mercedes-AMG CLS53, which is powered by

a turbocharged and supercharged 3.0-liter inline-six with a 48-volt system that makes

429 horsepower.

The latter overlaps with the AMG GT 4-Door lineup that begins with a GT53 featuring the

same powertrain.

Above that, Mercedes-AMG offers its new four-portal coupe in V-8–powered GT63 and GT63 S versions,

with 577 and 630 horsepower, respectively.

While its model designation suggests it is a derivative of the AMG GT sports car, the

GT 4-Door is actually constructed on the E-class platform just like the CLS.

A four-door version of the actual GT, a car that is closely related to the defunct SLS

supercar, was never an option.

"As an engineer, I realize at first glance that this approach wouldn't work.

You need certain spaciousness in the rear compartment, but not at the expense of the

sporting character," says AMG chief Tobias Moers.

Building the GT 4-Door atop the E-class platform turns it into a more formidable competitor

for the Panamera, where a version based on the two-door GT's hardware would have resulted

in something more like the Aston Martin Rapide, which is to say it would be a vehicle hampered

by packaging issues and a diminutive cabin. But an E-class is not always a mere E-class: While

the AMG CLS53 is built upon the regular-width CLS and E-class architecture, the GT 4-Door,

even in its entry-level iteration, is more closely related to the AMG E63 with its performance

chassis.

(In fact, the GT 4-Door is more closely related to the E63 wagon than the sedan.)

Still, it's not identical.

"The four-door GT features the AMG-specific rear frame with modified kinematics," says

Moers, adding, "the front axle is different as well."

The result: "Even when compared with the AMG E63, we are speaking of another dimension."

The engineering process is different, too.

While the CLS went through the usual steps of a new Mercedes-Benz model, the AMG GT 4-Door

was a much tighter project, designed and engineered in close cooperation between Tobias Moers

and chief designer Gorden Wagener.

The interiors differ significantly.

While the CLS interior is taken almost directly from the E-class, this only pertains to the

upper half in the GT 4-Door.

The center console is specific to the model, wider and elevated with a central section

modeled after a large NACA air duct that features new touch-capacitive buttons.

"It could be an inspiration for a facelift of the (two-door) GT," says Moers.

A diesel model like that Mercedes-Benz offers in the CLS in Europe also goes against AMG's

current philosophy.

"A diesel version of the four-door GT is not planned," Moers declared, adding that,

"for AMG, the future is electrified gasoline powertrains."

And he whets our appetite by revealing that "for a future hybrid variant of the GT,

look at the 805-horsepower concept of 2017 for inspiration."

For now, the AMG GT53 picks up neatly where the AMG CLS53 leaves off.

In terms of design, the two will never be confused; where the CLS emphasizes smooth

lines and an elegant demeanor, the AMG GT 4-Door oozes brutality and picks up cues from

the two-door model at every opportunity.

Nonetheless, Daimler is wary of the product overlap, and this concern is illustrated by

some tweaking of the lineup.

Whereas the second-generation CLS range included an AMG 63 version, that most-extreme offering

won't get a successor.

The CLS Shooting Brake is gone, too, having been deemed too similar to the GT 4-Door with

its rear liftgate.

And the future of the CLS beyond this model generation?

That's an open question.

Says Moers: "Whether the four-door GT and the CLS will be consolidated into one model

line will be decided at a later point; it is a question pertaining to the next platform."

Meanwhile, pricing for both models is still undeclared, but it's safe to assume that

the GT will command a significant premium over the CLS.

Competitors are also expanding their four-door coupe offerings: BMW is calling its replacement

for its 6-series Gran Coupe the 8-series, even as it already has the 6-series Gran Turismo

to replace the former 5-series model.
