Auto news on Youtube Apr 5 2018

Jeep took its go-anywhere spirit to dealer showrooms, showing a blistering increase in

sales.

But Hyundai is still trying to get traction.

As Americans deepen their love of sport utility vehicles, automakers felt the effect when

it came to March sales.

Collectively, they reported an unexpectedly strong month in March amid strong consumer

confidence despite stock market volatility.

Sales of new vehicles jumped 6% for the month, compared with a year earlier, according to

Autodata.

That easily outpaced analysts' forecasts, like the 3% increase from Edmunds.com and

a 2.6% increase from Cox Automotive.

For the month, the traditional Detroit Three automakers had strong month based almost exclusively

on their SUVs, crossovers and pickups.

General Motors recorded a surprising 15.7% sales increase, far outpacing expectations.

Ford Motor was up 3.5% and Fiat Chrysler rose 13.6%.

Among the Japanese automakers, Toyota was up 3.5%, Nissan declined 3.7%, Honda rose

3.8% and Subaru continued its hot sales streak with a 5.9% increase.

Wild swings in stock prices, higher gasoline prices and higher interest rates weren't enough

to keep car buyers out of the showroom.

"March is certainly coming in like a lion," said Charlie Chesbrough, senior economist

for Cox Automotive.

"It appears that buyers are shrugging off some of the more negative news we're seeing

out there."

Look no further than Jeep.

The Fiat Chrysler SUV brand is red hot.

Sales rose 44.7% in March as the Wrangler, Cherokee and Compass SUVs all posted huge

increases.

On the flip side, Korean automotive brand Hyundai's slump is worsening.

Without enough SUVs and crossover models, the passenger-car-heavy brand lacks appeal.

Hyundai sales tumbled 11.2% for the month.

To be sure, the encouraging March sales rate may not be sustainable for the full year.

Analysts expect overall U.S. auto sales to fall in 2018 after 2017 snapped two straight

years of record sales.

Rebecca Lindland, executive analyst at Cox Automotive, said consumers may be purchasing

vehicles sooner than expected to qualify for low finance rates before interest rates head

even higher later this year.

Still, automakers are healthy and are benefiting from an industrywide transition from passenger

cars to bigger and more profitable vehicles.

Customers are paying handsomely for bigger vehicles, which is padding the bottom line.

For the industry, buyers paid an average of $35,285 in March, up 2% from a year earlier,

according to Kelley Blue Book.

"I've never seen anything like it," said Mark LaNeve, Ford's vice president of U.S. marketing,

sales and service, on a conference call.

The Crazy Tuners - Toyota Supra (part 1) - Duration: 13:55.

When it comes to Crazy Tuners, the Japanese tuners are definitely the craziest ones.

Creators of some of the most popular tuning styles out there, the Japanese tuners have

managed to dominated the tuning world for more than 2 decades.

Since there are a lot of tuners that have worked with Japanese cars, would to cover

them in one video.

So I'm going make videos for each 90s car which was popular among tuners.

I would include here mostly cars that were built by establish tuners, but I would also

include here cars that are quite interesting to mention and race cars.

The car that I chose to start this video is the mighty Toyota Supra.

So like I said I also want to talk about the racing Supra, and what Supra would be better

to start this video then the legendary TOM's Supra.

Part of the Japanese Grand Touring Championship, TOMs Supra is racing icon, and is considered

as of the greatest race cars of all time.

The Japanese Grand Touring Championship or JGTC was founded back in 1993 when replaced

the JSPC, All Japan Sports Prototype Championship which was part of Group C. The JGTC was created

in order to reduce the costs of the prototype championship.

The early years had a wired mix of cars, including cars like the Porsche 962, Nissan Silvia,

Ferrari F40, Toyota Supra, Lamborghini Countach and Lancia 037.

The 1993, 94 and 95 championships were dominated by Nissan with their Skyline GTRs.

The big change for the championship came in late 1995, when the decision was made to replace

the JGTC with the GT500 and the GT300.

The reason for this change was the fact the championship had started becoming to expensive

for the teams.

So a number of different rules were applied in to make the new championships less expensive.

TOMs Supra made its debut in 1995, while previous teams had already raced with Supra's in

the previous years, but with little success.

TOM's or Tachi Oiwa Motor Sports had used Toyota's for years and had been quite successful,

they also had been part of Group C. Toyota's approach to wining the championship was bit

different from their competition.

Differently from the others they decided to abandon the mighty 2JZ-GTE which powered Supra.

Instead, they decided to go with the 3S-GT engine, which was the same engine that Toyota

was using for the WRC Celica GT-4.

This was one of the rules of the early days of the JGTC which allowed the cars to run

in any engine as long as the engine was already in use by the manufacture.

This was great choice since the engine was lighter but on the same time the produced

493hp which was enough since the limit was at 500hp.

The 1995 championship didn't proved to be great for the team since the championship

was won again by Nissan, while the 1996 championship saw both teams to be beaten by the McLaren

F1.

The 1997 was finally the year of Toyota.

The championship was dominated by two teams, both racing with Supra's.

The competition between TOM's and SARD was only chosen at the last race.

In fact both teams finished with a total of 67 points, two wins and second place for each.

But a third place at the Fuji Speedway was enough for TOM's team to win the championship.

But since we are talking about SARD, they built a quite interesting Supra.

For the 24 Hours of Tokachi, Toyota and SARD decide to return Supra back on the grid, but

the power train was completely different from all the cars before.

SARD swapped the 2l engine with the 3UZ-FE which is a 4.3l V8 which is used by the Lexus

430s.

But they didn't stopped here, since they also equipped the car with a 200hp electric engine,

creating this way a AWD hybrid with 480hp.

And they actually won the race, and so the Supra HV-R became the first hybrid car to

win a race.

But now lets talk about the tuned Supra's.

Ab-Flug is one of the most known and famous Japanese tuners.

Their pink RX7 is one of their most famous creations, since the car was also part of

the MidNight club, together with a 911.

Their offered a number of different kits and conversions for the Supra, but the most famous

one is the S900.

First, the engine received a HKS turbo kit and also a new computer fuel managing system

by Ab-Fulg.

All these increased the power to a hoping 900hp, which is enough to help the car to

reach a top speed of 355kmh.

Together with this wild power the S900 came with crazy bodykit.

This bodykit included, front bumper, side skirts, rear bumper, rear spoiler and a new

bonnet.

Blitz is another established JDM tuner, and so off course they offered their Supra kits

and conversions.

The Blitz conversions offered 750hp which were enough to reach a top speed of over 300kmh

and to accelerate from 0 to 100 in just 4s.

But the Blitz Supra is mostly known for the 753 Supra.

The 753 was built to brake the Nurburgring record of the R33 GTR, which had set a lap

time of 7m 59s.

The goal was to set a lap time of 7m53, but after they tried in 1998 they set a lap time

of 7m49s, braking this was the record of Gemballa which had lap time 7m52s.

The bodykit set offered a new bumper, side skirts, rear bumper and giant spoiler.

But definitely the most famous tuned Supra, is the Top Secret V12 powered Supra.

This mad car is built by Kazuhiko Nagata or Smokey how most people know him.

Smokey is a legend on the tuning scene and there are stories among stories about Smokey

Nagata.

And a good number of these stories are about the mighty V12 Supra.

In 1997 Toyota released the 1GZ-FE V12 engine for the Century.

And so Smokey got the idea to use the V12 engine for the Supra.

The engine swaps are very common now days, but back than these conversions were mostly

done by established tuners and not by private mechanics, so this was something very big

for the day.

Now is unclear how much power the V12 engine actually produced since the engine comes from

the 276hp era.

But off course this engine didn't produced enough power to satisfied Smokey, so he decided

to pack the engine with two HKS turbos.

His goal was to reach a top speed of 400kmh, so he was aiming the 1000hp mark.

He also completely changed the look of the car so he could get a lower drag conficecy

and to raise the down force.

After lots of hours of hard work and tons of money spend the car, Smokey finally started

setting speed records all over the world.

In 1999 Smokey sent the car to UK, aiming to reach the 320kmh mark.

He went pretty dam close with reaching a top speed of 317kmh.

But he was jailed by the UK police for overspending, and he was fined 190£, the next day he was

forced to leave the country.

After UK, he sent his beast to New Zealand when he set a number of different records

and got arrested again.

But there is only one place when you can reach the highest speed possible, and that is called

Nardo.

Sadly he failed to reach 400, but the top speed that he reached was again pretty impressive.

He reached 358kmh.

HKS and TRD also built Supra's, but their cars were mostly promotional car for their

parts so not a lot of numbers and specs exist about these cars.

No I couldn't find much information about more Japanese performance tuners.

Due to the language barriers is hard for me to find information, so if you have more info

about Japanese performance tuners, not only about Supra but all the Japanese sport car,

please sent me an email.

But most of the people just wanted the fast look and not the crazy power, so many tuners

were interest on offering mostly bodykits.

Even though lots of Euro tuners offered only bodykits which made your car to look faster,

the ricer style that we know today only started in the 90s with all the Japanese sport cars

of the time.

Now there a lot bodykits built by Japanese, European and Americans tuners, but I would

only talk about the most interesting ones since most these bodykits are very similar

with each other.

Trial Tuning Performance, offered and still offers different Aero packs.

The most unique thing of their bodykits are the curvy lines of the front bumper and the

side skirts.

But the best part definitely is the rear bumper with that giant diffuser, which makes the

car to look so beautiful in my opinion.

Skippers bodykits also were quite similar with the Trial bodykits, with the curvy lines

and with big inter cooler opening.

Like I said previously TRD offered lots of different parts, both performance parts and

bodykits.

Their bodykits were quite simple in fact, the bumper was way simpler compared to the

others tuners, since most of them had very complicated designs.

The rear spoiler on the other side was very interesting since looked like a Porsche Spoiler.

Varis on the other side made some the craziest bodkytis.

The early bodykits were quite wired, especially the front bumper, and the headlights covers.

But their news bodykits are some of the most beautiful Supra bodykits, probably because

their look more modern compared to all the others.

The Bomex bodykit is probably the most famous one since is the bodykit used for the Paul

Wlakers Supra.

Even though this wasn't the first bodykits of this style, is definitely the bodykit which

probably presented most of us to the JDM style of tuning.

The bodykit consisted on wiled front bumper, side skirts, rear bumper and the giant rear

spoiler.

But the wildest bodykits were definitely made by VeilSide.

VeilSide is another big nae since they are the ones that designed the HANs RX7 bodykit

from Tokyo Drift.

Like the Fortune RX7 the Fortune Supra is hard recognize in a first glance, since the

bodykit covered the headlights, the rear hatch was completely different, and the rear part

of the car looked completely different since the car had lost all the curves the Supra.

But their most famous Supra is the 4509 GTR which looks what Chrysler response to the

Bentley Continental GT.

So guys thank you for watching see you next time.
