Traveling to Geauga County's Amish Community Has Never Tasted so Good with Amish Baked Goods

Geauga County, Ohio, is approximately thirty miles east of Cleveland, thirty-eight miles north of Akron and forty miles from Youngstown. Geauga County is in the heart of the Northeast Ohio region. Geauga County boasts the fourth largest Amish community in the world. Where there are Amish, you can count on great homemade baked goods.

Amish Home Craft & Bakery located at 16860 Kinsman Road in Middlefield offers homemade gift and household items such as quilts, linens, toys and baskets as well as baked goods. The offerings vary by day but you can find homemade breads, pies, cookies, cinnamon rolls and fry pies. This is a great stop to really see Amish handiwork in the gift items as well as the baked goods. Their hours are Monday through Saturday from 9 am until 4:30 pm.

Countryside Home Bakery located at 17075 Mumford Road in Burton, may be a little hard to find as it is off the beaten path, but is worth the effort. Countryside is a family run bakery that offers homemade bread and rolls, cookies, pies, and their specialty cinnamon rolls. They use fresh ingredients and real butter whenever possible. Everything is homemade, even the pie fillings, and cooked in an authentic wood burning oven. They also offer other items to their customers such as Geauga County maple syrup, jams and jellies, honey, barbeque sauce and more. They are open Wednesday through Saturdays from 8 am until 5 pm.

Although not a home bakery, Mary Yoder's Amish Kitchen and Bakery does offer a wide variety of Amish baked goods made from Amish recipes. Everything here is homemade. Mary Yoder's is located at 14743 North State Street in Middlefield. They also have offerings from a gift shop. They are open Monday through Saturday through dinner.

The newest addition to the local bakeries is Nauvoo Family Market located at 15979 Nauvoo Road in Middlefield. Here you will find baked fresh daily breads, cookies, fry pies and specialty items. You will also find bulk foods, deli items, wagons, scooters and Coleman products. Their hours are Monday through Thursday from 8 am until 5 pm, Friday from 8 am until 7 pm and Saturday from 8 am until 4 pm.

There are so many things to see and do in Amish country, but homemade baked goods are among the best things. Geauga County offers residents and visitors fresh baked items almost every day of the week. Please remember that all Amish businesses are closed on Sundays and that most do not take credit cards.

The next time you are in Cleveland or Akron, take the short drive to Geauga County and pick up some fresh, homemade baked goods. Oh, and you can enjoy the beautiful rural scenery too. You are always welcome in Geauga County. Happy Travels!!
