I went on a trip about a month ago and while I was packing I thought to myself how much easier it would be if everyone in my family made a list and used it like a check-list when they are packing so that no one forgets anything at home.
Writing a list is a good way to make sure that you do not forget anything important when you are packing. Go from head to toe and make an itemized list of everything that you need for each part of your body starting at your head. Start out with clothing and then work your way to toiletries and any other comfort items and record them on your list. When packing, refer to your list and check off each item as you pack it away. You can also keep the list inside of your suitcase so that at the end of your vacation you can make sure not to forget anything when you are packing to return home.
Pack clothing for every occasion; bring long sleeve shirts, short sleeve shirts, pants and shorts and make sure that you alway bring at least one sweater or jacket, just in case. It is better to be prepared for anything than to wish you were better prepared. How many times have you been on vacation walking around and wishing that you brought more comfortable shoes along with you?
If you decide to travel hi-tech and your laptop, cellular phone or other of source of technology is on your list, make sure that you bring any accessory that it might need like a power supply, a battery backup and if you are bringing a digital camera or laptop make sure that there is plenty of disk space or memory to save any work-in-progress.
Toothbrushes and tooth paste can be difficult items to pack when going on vacation, but you don't have to travel without your personal hygiene items if you wrap each toothbrush in a paper towel and then place them in a plastic bag. The paper towel will soak up any moisture and ensure that the toothbrushes do not start to mold or mildew. I always wrap my toothpaste in a sandwich bag to make sure that it doesn't leak and get all over everything.
Travel to anyplace can be just as comfortable as your home if you have everything around you that you would normally use on a daily basis. Those little comforts from home can make all of the difference on your trip. If you prefer a type of shampoo, feel free to bring yours along so that you don't have to rely on using an unfamiliar hotel brand. This is your vacation - your time to relax, so make the most of it.
