Tips for Planning a Vacation to Missouri

Plan a vacation to the great state of Missouri and enjoy the easy-going life of those living in the area. Missouri offers excellent vacation spots for individuals who would like to enjoy nature, theme parks or historical locations. The Missouri Division of Tourism provides an excellent location to search and find the type of vacation destination you desire.

Family friendly amusement parks include Worlds of Fun and Oceans of Fun located at 4545 NE Worlds of Fun Drive in Kansas City. The two locations are located across from one another with plenty of hotels nearby. Visit other attractions throughout Kansas City while in the area.

Branson is the home to the hillbilly theme park of Silver Dollar City. Silver Dollar City is the location where the Beverly Hillbillies lived prior to finding their oil and moving to Beverly Hills. The main street area made several appearances in the TV comedy show. Throughout Silver Dollar City, themed rides are available that bring the feeling of adventure into everyone's heart. This theme park is open on weekends, holidays and special events throughout the fall, winter and spring months. During latter spring, summer and early fall, find the gates open to visitors every day of the week. Make sure to visit Marvel Cave upon entering the park. This cave is one of the largest caves in the world.

Travel the steps of Mark Twain and Tom Sawyer in Hannibal. Hannibal is the boyhood home of Samuel Langehorn Clemons, aka Mark Twin, and the location for The Mark Twain Boyhood Home & Museum. Visit the Mark Twain Lake Region while in the area. The wilderness area provides locations to fish, hike, camp and boat.

St. Louis is the home to the Gateway Arch, also known as the Gateway to the West, is located at the Jefferson National Expansion Memorial on the Mississippi River. The Gateway Arch is 630 feet tall and is the largest man-made monument in the United States. Tickets are available at the Arch to ride an elevator to the top and view the surrounding area. For those individuals that are claustrophobic, the ride to the top of the arch is in a small enclosed tram that seats five people. It readjusts periodically to stay level while ascending and descending the 630 feet. The adjustments feel jerky at times which can cause some anxiety. The ride takes approximately ten minutes both ways. The view is spectacular for those brave enough to venture up either the north or south leg.

The Missouri River borders the west side of Missouri while the Mississippi River is on the East. Individuals who enjoy the water will find campgrounds, boat launches and boat docks, hiking trails and fishing spots along both sides of the state.

The Lake of the Ozarks is located in southern Missouri and northern Arkansas. The scenery is beautiful that provides a calming to anyone who enjoys nature. Small lakes, rivers, golf courses and small shops are found in unusual places. Rent a cabin, home, condo or hotel room and enjoy the many activities in the area.

Enjoy the many attractions found within the State of Missouri. Visitmo.com provides a plethora of information on the attractions throughout the state. Plan ahead and look for discount tickets on the Internet for theme park or amusement park visits. Discounts and trip packages are available for individuals traveling to the Lake of the Ozarks. Prices vary but if you are willing to look at a time share, the cost for staying two to three nights in a nice hotel or time share location is under $100.
