The Louisville Slugger Museum in Louisville, Kentucky is Must-See History at Work

The Louisville Slugger Museum is located in downtown Louisville, Kentucky and is a top attraction when visiting this friendly city. The building is hard to miss with a larger than life baseball bat that is several stories high at the front door of the museum (this landmark also makes a wonderful photo op!). Whether a baseball enthusiast, just curious or want something fun to do for a few hours, the Louisville Slugger Museum has something for everyone.

The walls in the main hallways are lined with photos and information, which lead to a large baseball glove carved out of limestone big enough for kids to climb onto and explore - this carving is a marvel in itself. There is a batting cage to allow several people to practice their skills at softball slow pitch, little league or a try at fast pitch baseball. Children can enter a kid-size batting cage, stop at the coloring station for crayons and baseball picture creations, or read some baseball books.

Tours are given at different times of the day through the factory that produces Louisville Slugger baseball bats and last roughly half an hour. It is a treat in itself to see a product made in the United States of America that has stood the test of time and economics, and is still in production in present day. The tour guides are friendly and will answer as many questions as are thrown at them, but keep the tour moving along. The process of making Louisville Slugger baseball bats is quite interesting. It is also amazing to see wood sections and the process they go through from beginning to end, with specific results in mind for each baseball bat. Guests at the Louisville Slugger Museum also get to have a souvenir from the baseball making process called a billet.

Another fascinating aspect is that professional baseball players have bats made specifically for them, a certain shape, color, and style. Baseball enthusiasts will enjoy seeing baseball bats being made for their favorite baseball player(s) in special sections just for that particular player.

Following the tour, guests enter an enormous, educational, and fun area to learn even more about baseball and its history. Have a picture taken with Babe Ruth, girls can find a pink bat among one of the many cases of special and historical bats, stand behind the plate and see how fast a fast ball really does come over home plate in the major leagues, and make sure to look up at the ceiling to see it aptly decorated.

Other stops to make during a visit include the gift shop has a variety of souvenirs to make a visit special, including the chance to purchase a personalized bat from the Louisville Slugger Museum. Don't miss the Walk of Fame just outside the doors of the museum. Group tours can be given with reservations. Birthday parties for little ones can be hosted at the Louisville Slugger Museum. All of these amenities at the Louisville Slugger Museum make it a unique part of the history of baseball and America.
