Where is Nuan Prang? - If you're one of the trendy set in Bangkok, you'll already know where Suzuki Avenue (also known as Major Avenue) is located. Behind the ever-popular Major Ratchayothin Mall, Suzuki Avenue is an upscale shopping center crammed full of independent boutiques and gorgeous restaurants and cafes. Nuan Prang Noodle Bar and Grill is towards the back of Suzuki Avenue, opposite Greyhound Cafe and right next to Iberry Ice Cream. Starbucks is just around the corner.
What is Nuan Prang Noodle Bar and Grill? - While Nuan Prang sounds like an average Bangkok noodle bar, that couldn't be further from the truth. It's an independently-owned restaurant specializing in Thai-fusion food and, of course, noodles. What pulls you into Nuan Prang though is it's absolutely stunning design. All dark wood, warm lights and trendy, if you're feeling in the mood for looking fashionable while you eat - this place is the real deal.
There's seating outside on a small patio, or inside in the warmly lit and simply stunning interior. Both are delightful places to see and be seen.
The Food - Of course, I love a restaurant that looks beautiful but, ultimately, I'm all about the food. Never fear, Nuan Prang serves up both. A gorgeous eatery along with some of the best Thai-fusion food I've eaten in Bangkok and this place is already on my "must eat there again soon" list.
I ate dinner at Nuan Prang Noodle Bar and Grill with a Thai-American friend. We both enjoy similar styles of food, and she had eaten there once before. So, upon her recommendation, I gave it a shot.
After sitting down, menus were brought by a lovely, smiling waiter who then hovered nervously next to us (in Thailand, the wait staff always hover - you just get used to it), while we ordered. The menu is small with around five appetizers, eight noodle dishes, various rice and meat dishes, a couple of salads and several styles of spaghetti. Oddly though, even though there isn't a vast choice, just about everything on the menu was one of my favorite dishes, meaning it took me forever to decide.
My friend and I finally decided to split an order of pork balls with a spicy sauce as an appetizer, then she ordered Pad Thai with Shrimp and I chose the Spaghetti with Spicy Chiang Mai Sausage. The food arrived extremely quickly, and it was superb.
The pork balls were the tastiest I've ever had, the Pad Thai arrived with massive shrimp cooked to perfection and all garnished nicely with slices of orange, and my Chiang Mai Sausage Spaghetti was spicy and flavorful with a rich pasta sauce. Portions are small but, honestly, we were both full by the time we'd finished so anything more would have been a waste.
To add to our delight, we ordered glasses of Traditional Thai Iced Tea. Unlike normal Bangkok restaurants, where the tea arrives in an average sized glass and tastes, well, average, at Nuan Prang the tea is served in a tall, cocktail glass with a long straw. I've never seen a more elegant looking Thai iced tea.
Prices at Nuan Prang - Higher priced than similar restaurants, it's still relatively inexpensive for the quality, service and lovely location. For the appetizers, two entrees and two iced teas, the total bill was 560 baht ($18.65) so, with tip, $10 each. An excellent price for such a wonderful experience.
I'll already be back at Nuan Prang Noodle Bar and Grill next week when I meet my friend again for dinner. I recommend you try it too.
