Restaurant Review: Don Churrasco in Quito, Ecuador

I worked around the corner from Don Churrasco in Quito, Ecuador, and whenever I had time to sit down for lunch, Don Churrasco was my go-to place. It's small and probably only seats about 30 people, but the menu is massive. If you're craving meat, this is an affordable restaurant with fantastic grilled options. I'd eat there at least once a week.

How's the food?

I usually order a half portion of the Don Churrasco plate. Unlike many restaurants in the city, there is no tourist menu. A menu usually includes a drink, the meal, and dessert. If you're worried about not getting enough food at Don Churrasco, you shouldn't be. Some of my male friends order the full portion, but I can barely finish half. My meal included a milanesa with two eggs, French fries, rice, and a salad of lettuce, onions, tomato. The grand total was $3.10 USD. A milanesa is very similar to chicken fried steak. You can also order the chicken version, which sort of tastes like a chicken patty. The menu at Don Churrasco isn't very healthy, but it's filling and holds you over until dinnertime.

How's the service?

There is only one server working at a time, so when the place is packed, you might have to flag him down. I've also had to wait over twenty minutes for food before, so if you're in a rush, this may not be the place for you. Also, I don't think there are any vegetarian options, unless you want white rice and an iceberg lettuce salad for lunch. On a lighter note, I've never had issues with the order. I really don't like eggs, for example, so I order the meal without the two eggs, and it's never been a problem.

Check out Don Churrasco next time you're in town. It's a fun little establishment that you might otherwise pass by on the street. It's a casual place with cheap lunch options. And it's delicious! Don Churrasco in Quito, Ecuador is located on the corner of Juan Leon Mera and Wilson in the tourist district La Mariscal.
