There are several venues offering nightlife and a club atmosphere where you can ring in the new year and watch the fireworks, or you can spend it at one of the city's hotels that will be offering special packages. This year the Shangri-La's Far Eastern Plaza Hotel is throwing a rooftop poolside countdown party and cocktail reception.

From 10pm until 1am on December 31, 2010, a private extra-cost cocktail reception will take place on the rooftop pool area of the Shangri La's Far Eastern Hotel right in the heart of downtown Taipei. For $ 3,200 NT, plus 10% service charge (around $100 US based on current exchange rates), you can enjoy a fancy reception with a front row spot to view the Taipei 101 fireworks at midnight.
The Shangri-La Hotels are known for their culinary delights and this reception will prove to showcase the talents of the chefs. The Shangri-La Hotel has announced this year's menu, which will feature a wide array of offerings. Enjoy a fresh chilled seafood station that will include scallops, tiger prawns, and green lip mussels. There will be a special Atlantic Salmon station, a Japanese station with sushi and sashimi, and even an interesting sounding bread display with Baba Ghanoush, hummus, tapenade, and pesto. The appetizer station include parma ham, chicken liver mousse on pesto bread, goose liver terrine on toasted brioche, and more. There will be lobster bisque available and other hot dishes, including Mediterranean seafood skewers and gratin oysters.
While that is only a taste of what will be available during the cocktail reception, remember to save room for the dessert station. The Shangri-La's Far Eastern Hotel will offer 11 different dessert options including some traditional Chinese specialties, as well as sweeter delights like Chocolate espresso mouse, Tiramisu, and assorted flavors of Movenpick ice cream.

Reservations are highly recommended and there is a business casual dress code.
