A Trip to Michigan City, Indiana

My husband, Trey and I, along with our 4 month old son, Christian, went to Michigan City, Indiana. It was a dual purpose trip. We went to see his family and to celebrate our anniversary. We had a lot of fun on this trip and although my husband is originally from Michigan City, we discovered a few good places that he didn't know about before this trip.

We stayed at the Super 8 on Franklin. This is a "Pride of Super 8" hotel. It was easy to see why when we checked in. We have stayed there in the past, but it has been completely remodeled since our previous trip. The check in was fast and they handled our special request without any problems. Because of all of the baby stuff we took with us, we requested a non-smoking first floor room close to the entrance. We got exactly that! The room was great. It was very clean and inviting. The furniture was new and dusted. The television was a 27inch and it had a real remote. The room was equipped with a microwave, mini-fridge, coffee maker, hair dryer and an alarm clock with radio. There was a local attraction guide that helped us in choosing the restaurants where we ate. We were there 4 nights and it was always quiet. The staff was honestly concerned with our happiness. After an eight hour trip, we were exhausted! We put the "Do Not Disturb" sign on the door. Trey's sister and her family came to see us and the desk clerk would not let them through until he called us. Now, that is what I call great customer service!

We had Gelsosomos deliver our food on the first day. We ordered the BBQ sandwich and Ultimate Nachos. Our food arrived in 20 minutes. It was hot and good. We also ate at Steak-N-Shake a couple of times. That was good as well. We don't have one in Jonesboro anymore, so we always stop there when we are in Michigan City. Steak-N-Shake is right by the hotel. We ate at the Lighthouse Restaurant. The service there was a little slow. It took over 5 minutes for the server to come get our drink order. However, the quality of the food and the prices made up for it. The food was excellent. We had 3 adults and a child. We ate dinner and had cheesecake afterwards. The entire meal was $45. The rest of the time, we ate at McDonalds or Burger King. McDonalds was always good and the service was quick. Burger King was a different story. Our order was messed up and incomplete and it took 10 minutes to get through the drive through.

We went to the beach. That was really nice. It was sunny and warm but not too hot. The seagulls were flying around. There is a beautiful lighthouse. There are almost always sail boats and yachts that are nice to look at just past the swimming line. It was not crowded at all! During the "off season" the parking is free. Even Christian was happy and smiling! Near the beach is the Franklin Park Zoo. We didn't visit the zoo this trip but in the past, it has been fun.

This trip was wonderful. Unlike most vacations, this was very relaxing. Michigan City is fairly close to Chicago; so, if there is not enough to do in Michigan City, a day trip to Chicago is a good idea. Michigan City is a wonderful destination when you want big city entertainment in a small city atmosphere.
