5 Ways to Act like a Local in France

France, it is not only the most visited country in the world, but it is ingrained with a certain class and elegance that has been grown into the French culture from the beginning. A lot of visitors marvel at the beauty and arts that can be found here, and a lot of people move to France in order to try and capture what it is truly like to be French. Here are some tips for looking and acting like a local while you travel without having to spend years living in, and studying the French lifestyle.

5. No Fast-Food - In France, meals are important parts of the day, that should be enjoyed and savored. Never rush through meals, or eat on the go, this is simply not done. Take the time to sit down and talk with family and friends while you dine. Also watch your soda drinking habit, the French look down upon those who drink soda from a can in the streets. Priding themselves on elegance, this is not something that promotes it.

4. Grocery Shopping Everyday - Most of us, when we go grocery shopping buy everything we need in bulk and come back in a month or so. But in France, shopping is altogether different. Shopping is a routine that should be done everyday, you go out, you buy what you need, come home and make that meal, and then do the same the next day. Also don't forget to bring grocery bags, they are not free in France.

3. Dress Accordingly - What we in the US consider 'casual' is not to be worn out of the house in France. Ever elegant and stylish, the French have a serious lack of casual clothing when it comes to going out. So forget wearing your pajamas out for a quick trip to the store, you will definitely get some awkward looks.

2. Let's Get Physical - PDA is something you don't have to worry about in France, they are very accepting and will become even more pronounced if prudish foreigners stare at them. So don't be afraid to show affection to your special someone in public, this is just part of the life in France and is accepted by all.

1. Watch Your Drinking - Though the French are known for their wine, and often have one or two glasses with dinner, it is important to never over-do it. There is no better way to look like a foreigner than to drink too much at dinner.
