The off season vacation is one cheap vacation idea. If you hit the beach after the summer season you are sure to find plenty of rooms and plenty of savings. While some of the seasonal attractions may be closed in the off peak season, there will still be plenty to do in a resort destination. If you enjoy dining out, golfing, shopping and other activities at the beach the water temperature really doesn't make much difference. This goes for vacation to other areas and not just the beach.
The local vacation is another cheap vacation idea. Check out your local state and national parks for deals on camping, rental cabins, and lodge rooms. Though the destination might not be exotic, staying and relaxing in a different atmosphere makes for a great vacation! Camping is allowed in most parts of a National Forest for free, there is usually a charge in the developed campgrounds however.
The go nowhere vacation is perhaps the cheapest vacation idea of all. Stock up on food, movies, board games, books and whatever else you might want and stay in the house all weekend. Turn off the phone, don't answer the door and just relax.
The go see relatives vacation is another possible choice for a cheap vacation idea. Go see relatives and crash with them for a day or so. Time your visit for the weekends when the hotel rates are the highest and stay in the hotel when the rates go back down.
The desperate location vacation is a choice for a cheap vacation idea. Cities that have been hard by economic downturns will hold great deals on rooms and everything else. For instance, there are tons of things to do in Detroit, Michigan, and the room rates are cheap. I am writing this on a Wednesday and rooms for this weekend are starting around $30 on the hotel booking websites. Locations with economies largely dependent on tourism (Las Vegas, Atlantic City, Orlando, etc.) have deals to be found as well.
These are but a few of the possible cheap vacation ideas that are out there. If you can put together some money and some free time, there is probably a vacation choice that you can afford.
