Enjoy Cool Weather Camping at the Astoria/Seaside, Oregon KOA

Not a lot of people consider late fall and winter to be great times for camping, but they are some of my favorites. My entire life my family has traveled to various destinations during these colder months in order to enjoy destinations that are generally packed with people in the summer. One of these locations is the Oregon Coast. Many of the same attractions are open, but often rates are less expensive and hardly any people. The place to stay to enjoy both the coast and camping is the Astoria/Seaside, Oregon KOA campground.

This October my husband and I camped in our tents at the KOA campground. They park offers both open tenting sites and tent village sites. These tent village sites are partially covered and with sinks. We chose to use an open site. This presented some difficulties during the huge thunderstorm that erupted that night, but KOA, of course, has no authority over that. The site included a nice grassy area for the tent, a fire ring, and a picnic table.

I appreciated that the camp has well-apportioned heated bathrooms and showers. These are located very near the tent sites, making them convenient. Too many campgrounds only offer outhouses, but the Astoria/Seaside KOA provides clean, warm, indoor plumbing. It's fantastic.

Of the other amenities, I truly love the indoor pool and hot tub. When you've been caught outside in a coastal rainstorm, it's delightful and refreshing to enjoy the KOA's pool facilities. They are immaculately clean. The pool only goes to a depth of about 5', but that's just fine for kids. Or for those of us who are shorter in stature.

The KOA has a small shop to pick up anything you may have forgotten, as well as souvenirs. Free wi-fi is available, and there is also an internet café open for limited hours. RV sites and Kamp Kabins with one or two rooms are up for grabs as well.

During the non-peak months the KOA campground offers lower rates and special deals. A single night in the open tenting sites for us was $16.50. This was based off a discount rate for off-season as well as a fall savings special. Check out the website for more special rates and deals, as well as to make reservations.

The Astoria-Seaside KOA campground is located at 1100 Northwest Ridge Road in Hammond. It is directly across from the Fort Stevens state campground. Call (503) 861-2606 for more information.
