Travel Guide to Union County and the Little Rural Community of Sturgis, Kentucky - Yahoo Voices - voices.yahoo.com

Union County is in Western Kentucky and one of the most notable yearly events in Union County is the Little Sturgis Motorcycle Rally & Races for charity, which takes place in the small rural community of Sturgis.

This event is known all across the motorcycle circuits as one of the more have to attend rally events in North America. Big Sturgis is in South Dakota each year in August and while Little Sturgis can't compare to its namesake counterpart, it does get its fair number of visitors each year.

Sturgis is a small rural township and traveling to this quaint community during the month of July for the rally is always daunting for any visitor. This article will hopefully give you some insight along with a nice little travel guide to use when coming to Sturgis, KY in Union County.

Union County is approximately 18000 people and consists of several rural communities such as Morganfield, which is the county seat, Sturgis, Uniontown and Waverly. The county is known for being the home to the local Corn Festival, the Breckinridge Center along with its Breckinridge Museum and Arts Center, the Job Corp Academy just outside of Morganfield and of course Little Sturgis Motorcycle Rally & Races.

Sturgis in Union County borders my home county of Crittenden and was my mother's hometown. Sturgis is the home to the Union County Expo Center and Fairgrounds, which is the site of the county fair each year usually the last week of June, along with also being the site of Little Sturgis, which takes place in early July.

For anyone traveling to Sturgis you will most likely need accommodations, which can be found in many different spots. One choice might be River Bend Whitetail, LLC which is a hunting equipped lodge that can accommodate a large group. The comfortable suites offer private bathroom facilities along with beautifully scenic atmospheres in which to relax. Other places to stay while visiting Sturgis range from Myers Bed and Breakfast or the Marion Inn in Marion, KY to the County Hearth Inn in Eddyville, KY, which is close to Kentucky and Barkley Lakes and Venture River.

Sturgis, KY has a small local airport, which is located approximately one mile east of Sturgis and was built in 1941. The Sturgis Airport is well known to corporate aircraft as well as the private community. The terminal lounge is well maintained and the airport grounds are home to the Union County Fair and Little Sturgis each summer. The Convention and Expo Center resides on the grounds and there is also a ½ mile horse-racing track. One of the most recent added attractions to enjoy is a nine hole golf course which is near the 22 acre lake and is a lovely facility for anyone to use including Sturgis and Union county inhabitants.

I have enjoyed the rural community of Sturgis most of my life and find it very welcoming to anyone visiting Western Kentucky. Traveling to Sturgis Kentucky is a great experience for anyone wishing to see a beautiful scenic area along with being close to many of the local area attractions. For anyone traveling to Sturgis there are several attractions to choose from in any direction one wishes to go, such as Cave In Rock, Kentucky and Barkley Lakes, Venture River and an Outlet Mall which is located in Eddyville, KY.

Sturgis has a OLE PANTS FACTORY ANTIQUE MALL which is located on Main Street and is surrounded by several different eateries such as Pizza Hut, Coach's Corner, Trackside BBQ and the Peak Brothers BBQ in Waverly.
