Madison Blue Spring State Park

Madison Blue Spring State Park is located at the top center of Florida along the banks of the gentle winding Withlacoochee River, just 10 miles east of Madison, Florida. While swimming and scuba diving is the main attraction here, you'll love the beauty and peaceful tranquility of the park just the same.

Once the only freshwater source for local residents, Madison Blue Spring State Park is now as always, a gorgeous 25 feet deep spring with crystal clear blue waters. An amazing aspect of Blue Springs is that it contributes to nearly 25% of the water flowing in the Withlacoochee River. On top of that, it flows backwards into the river, creating a wide arching of clear water in the tannin stained waters of the Withlacoochee. A large sandbar is the result.

The limestone basin in which the spring flows from, are rocky karst formations that form a picturesque surrounding to this unique water supply. Mixed hardwoods and pines are typical of this region and dominate the beautiful landscape. Wildlife abounds as deer, red shouldered hawks and a myriad of river wildlife share this scenic area together.

Fishing is fairly decent here and bass, bluegill and catfish can all be caught from the banks and boats on the Withlacoochee River. A Florida fishing license is required for anglers 16 and up.

Canoeing and kayaking this awe inspiring river is easy with the provided canoe launch area. While there are no canoe or kayak rentals available in the state park, nearby outfitters can provide you with whatever you need to have the ultimate river adventure.

After your swim in these enchanting waters, what better way to relax than to have a picnic. Shower off at the day use shower area, and then visit one of several picnic tables and covered shelters that are available on a first come first serve basis. Grills and a volleyball court turn this picnic into the ultimate family fun adventure.
